Celebrating Our Heritage

Guiry's - Since 1899

A rich hertiage.

Way back in 1899, the American flag only had 45 stars, only 8% of households had phones, and a three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. New houses and businesses were flourishing. It was in this time of burgeoning demand for home renovation supplies that Irish immigrants Joseph and Herb Guiry founded Guiry’s Color Source, which has been supplying the greater Denver area with paint and wallpaper for over a century. The family-owned business, currently headed by Dick and Sean Guiry, boasts ten Colorado locations in Arvada, Boulder, Centennial, Cherry Creek, Denver LoDo, Denver South, Lakewood, Littleton, and Parker, and has expanded to include window coverings, home décor, furniture, and fine art supplies,

We've been around for over 120 years, and we'll be here in the future when you need us again!

The company began its life as "Guiry Brothers" at 17th and Curtis Street. After World War II, Joseph's sons, Leonard, Frank, and Joseph Jr., took over the company. Leonard headed the retail stores while Joe managed the paint contracting, and Frank Guiry became a general contractor, building homes in Denver's postwar boom. He opened two new retail locations in Lakewood and Aurora.

“The source for foreign and domestic wallpapers, tekko, grasscloth, leather, lincrusta, burlaps, paints, oils and glass, painting and paperhanging and interior decoration with churches and public buildings a specialty!” – the Denver Business Directory (1910)

In 1962, Richard “Dick” Guiry took over as the president of the company and opened a new store in the University Hills Shopping center. What began as a 1500-square foot location has since grown to a 20,000-square foot retail outlet that is now located at 2121 South Colorado Boulevard.

1999 marked a century of business for Guiry’s. To celebrate this achievement, Dick Guiry and son Sean Guiry opened the Parker store. They also acquired and renovated a 25,000-square foot building just north of Coors Field on the corner of Market Street and 23rd. Known as the LoDo location, this unique store exhibits the charm and history residents have come to appreciate about Denver and brought Guiry’s back to its downtown roots.

Dick and Sean continued the tradition of running and expanding the company, adding stores in Arvada and Cherry Creek. They also opened a paint-only store on Colfax Avenue in Lakewood.

“Short and sweet: this is the best paint and home decor store I've worked with. The customer service and the obvious care of the manager and the associates are so clear.” – Loren C. (2016)

The two newest stores expand Guiry's further outside of Denver with paint and decorating available in Fort Collins and paint only in Colorado Springs. Guiry's hopes to open a contractor paint center on the southwest side of Denver by late 2020.

Guiry’s is the provider of choice for many large commercial projects in the Denver area and is a retailer of quality house paints with lines that feature Benjamin Moore, Coronado, and our private label, Guiry’s Select.  We also carry an extensive selection of specialty finishes and stains from PPG, Cabot, Benjamin Moore, and Messmers.

In addition to paint and stain, we employ in-house designers at 9 of our locations, offer personalized color consultations, have Denver's largest selection of wallpaper books (over four hundred to choose from), and carry custom Hunter Douglas blinds and shutters. Our home decor section features Bramble furniture and unique accessories. We are also proud to offer fine art supplies, including canvas, fine pens, and oil, acrylic, and watercolor paints. Our designers are always available to provide guidance or suggestions on your next products, and can even do in-home consultations.
We take our business and long-term commitment to the community very seriously. We are proud of the professional products and services we provide and are honored to serve and greet our customers, new and old.

Why Guiry's?

We're Family Owned and Operated

We've been family owned and operated since day one.... over 120 years ago. To put that into perspective - that's 13 years before the Titanic, and a whopping 29 years before sliced bread. Yeah, we're older than sliced bread - let that one sink in.

While we've grown a bit over the years, we still do everything we can to maintain the small, family business feeling that you get when you walk into a neighborhood store. You know, the feeling of being welcome, that you're amongst friends and a place where people take the time to learn your name. In fact, it's not uncommon at all to find Sean Guiry mixing paint, helping pick out colors in the design center or on his phone with a customer. We'll never grow too big that we'll forget how great it is to just kick back and talk with our customers.

We know there are a lot of other places you could go to get your supplies, which is why we value each and every customer who walks into one of our stores. When you're here, you're with family.... and we promise to geek out about your projects right alongside you.

We're more than just a paint store.

Way, way more.

It's true - we're mainly known as either the neighborhood paint store, or the local art supply shop. Both of which are 100% accurate. But, we're so much more than that as well.

We take great pride in the products we carry, becuase we know they're a reflection of us. Which is why we're picky about the brands we carry and take the time to research a product before we bring it into our stores. Explore some of the brands we're proud to carry, and we hope to be your go-to store next time you're in the market for paint, home decor or art supplies.

Hunter Douglas There's no doubt about it - when it comes to window coverings, Hunter Douglas is the industry leader in quality, style and innovation. Want your shades to raise, lower and open themselves on a schedule - they can do that. Want light control, UV protection and style - they definitely have that as well.

  • Our first location opened in 1899 - a whole 13 years before the Titanic sank.
  • We currently have 12 1/2 locations and growing! 12 physical stores, and the half is our webstore. We're hoping to grow our physical stores as well - so be on the look out for numbers 13+
  • Guiry's is currently run by the 4th generation - Sean Guiry. The company has been family owned and operated since it's inception and Sean stepped into the leadership role when his father passed away in 2017.
  • We currently have a little over 34,000 unique products in our arsenal - and growing! We try to stay on top of current trends and listen to our customers and their needs - and that is reflected in our product offering. If you can't find something you need, let us know. There's a good chance we can order it for you or point you in the right direction.
  • We may be small, but we're mighty! Guiry's has just under 150 employees company-wide, all of which play a vital role in the success of the company. We aren't joking when we say that the best thing about Guiry's is our team. They're fantastic and we could literally talk to you about them all day.

We do the best we can, right where we are.

Here are some of the ways we're playing a small part in helping our enviroment:

  • We offer paint recycling at nearly all of our locations and partner with Paint Care Colorado to make sure this is handled in a responsible way.
  • We enjoy offering products that are responsibily manufactured and have a low impact on the enviroment. Such as low or zero VOC paint from Benjamin Moore - including their Natura paint which is certified Allergy and Asthma friendly.
  • We have been converting all of the lighting both inside and outside our stores to energy efficient LED lighting.
  • We recently installed a solar field on top of our Denver warehouse - allowing us to offset over 650,500 lbs of C02, 1,504lbs of NOx and 1,922 lbs of So2.... every year!
  • We also try to be conscious of how the little things add up into a big difference - like turning off the lights when we aren't using them, opening the doors and recycling boxes, junk mail, faxes (yes, people still send faxes) and copies whenever possible.

We love to give back! We don't talk about this much becuase we feel that when we give back, it is often more rewarding to us when no one knows we're doing it.

We believe in supporting small businesses and non-profits, children's art education and the schools in our local communities.

And even though we don't talk much about it, but we rest better at night knowing we're making a big impact wherever we can.

We want everyone to know that no matter how big or small - we can all play a part in bettering our communities and enriching the lives of those around us.
